Copy Me Challenge- Donna Funky Junk Interiors

I decided that I wanna play.  My blog is so new and not quite ready to show yet but I want to play the Miss Mustard Seed and Funky Junk Donna’s copy me challenge so I’m gonna just go for it.  For Funky Junk Donna I decided that my rustic shutter window treatment was probably the most Funky Junk-ish thing in my house.

I have had these shutters, made by cutting two bi-fold closet doors in half, for at least 4 years.  Not quite as awesome as Donna’s shutter window treatment in her front room but I thought it was pretty clever.  They initially were stained medium brown.  They lived like that until about 6 months ago (everything seems like 6 months ago to me time fly’s so who knows how long it’s really been.) when I painted them with heirloom white spray paint, distressed the edges with sand paper and aged with brown stain.  The twig wreath I bought at the local thrift store for under $3 it had some berry sprigs and leaves in it but I feel it’s more Donna-esk without them and of course a rusty star.
I also made the pillow, sign, and bench. The antique fishing creel, game board and lantern were things that my husband has acquired from family.  I love how worn they are.  My first attempt did not include the game board or sign but I knew I had to add some graphic items to make it more Donna. I don’t have any rustic old parts to really finish it off so I added the skeleton keys. Here is my best attempt at Donna's style with what I have.  Eek, I just popped over and looked at some of the entries and almost lost my nerve to link up. Almost ;)

love your copy me challenge entry! i like how it's more your signature style than a direct copycat. and isn't that what we're trying to accomplish...our own style?!
love the really should do a tutorial on it.
enjoy your weekend!

Hi, Mimi--So glad you posted your contribution...really love your stuff and your site. Welcome! I am your newest follower.
Also, love the color of your wall--I have one more wall to go in my living room of what looks to be the same color! (Benjamin Moore - 'graphite', totally love that color).
Have a nice Sunday.

Wow, I love this! I'm so glad you didn't lose your nerve because this little corner totally speaks to me! Right down to that suitcase on the bench that I've wanted to do forever without painting them like most do. Good grief... how did you KNOW? :)

The best part? It doesn't appear staged. It looks like part of your room. That's another secret to my look you know. :) You did AWESOME.
